Pyite in your garage?
We have the solution!

Pyrite is an iron sulfide mineral often found in sedimentary rock. When exposed to oxygen and moisture, pyrite undergoes a chemical reaction that produces sulfuric acid and expands the material around it. This expansion can exert pressure on concrete floors, leading to cracking, heaving, and other structural damage.

Our process
The Pyrite Remediation Process…

Inspection and Testing
A professional inspection identifies the presence and extent of pyrite damage. Testing may include core sampling and laboratory analysis of the affected material.

Preparation
The damaged area is cleared of all obstructions, all the interior partition walls and subfloors are removed.

Concrete Removal
The existing concrete slab is carefully demolished and removed to expose the pyrite-laden fill material underneath.

Pyrite Excavation
The pyrite contaminated backfill is excavated and removed to solid ground.

Preparation
Machine compact the sub-base at 10000 lbs. of centrifugal force. Install a geotextile membrane to maximize compaction and drainage. Replace any plumbing, drains and water pipes.

Backfill
The contaminated backfill is replaced with clean 3/4 inch DB certified non-reactive materials. Install a 6-mil vapor barrier, sealed at the joints, to block the effects of moisture and humidity under the concrete slab. Installing insulating rigid foam as a thermal break is an option .

New Concrete
A new 32 mpa concrete floor is poured, ensuring proper leveling and reinforcement for long-lasting results.

Finishing Touches
The new floor is cured, smoothed, and prepared for use. Optional waterproofing or protective coatings may be applied for added durability.
